Hey. My name is Katie Cartwright. I am 21 years old and I am a junior at the University of Georgia. Right now I am a nursing major, but up until about 6 months ago I had always planned on being a math teacher, so the nursing thing is very new. I have a very large, and kind of complicated to explain family, and it seems to always be changing… but the short version is I have 1 older sister and 7 younger siblings (don’t worry they are not all from the same parents). My family is the most important thing in the world to me.

I grew up in Norcross, GA and attended a small private school called Wesleyan for most of my elementary through high school career. I love playing sports. There I did basketball, cross country, and soccer, but basically I love to watch or play just about any sport. I also like just being outside. I also have a huge love of water.. any kind a lake, the ocean, rivers, etc.

Kids are my passion. I have always wanted to work with kids, which is why I used to want to teach, but after one of my little sister’s ended up in the hospital about a year ago, I started to consider nursing as a better profession for me. It broke my heart seeing some of the little tiny kids at the hospital who were there without their parents, some for days without anyone other than the nurses checking on them.
My spiritual life has definitely been a rocky one, but basically I became a Christian when I was 15. I’ve been on a few short term mission trips, and the last one I went on was to Costa Rica with a campus organization called the Wesley Foundation. When I was there is when the Lord told me that I was not just supposed to be a school teacher, and that is also when I decided that the Lord wanted me to be a missionary, but He never made it clear whether I was supposed to actually go live overseas, or do short-term trips, or just stay in the US, so that is what I have been trying to figure out. Then my friend (Bill Bush) told me about World Race and that is how I ended up here.
