I am sitting on top of the roof at the
hostel we’re staying at and overlooking crazy Cambodian traffic
pondering what has taken place this past week. I still feel the need
to state to myself, “Katie, you’re in Cambodia.

My team is working with a ministry
focused on prevention. The program is for children who are at very
high risk of being human trafficked.
It is a school for children to
learn basic concepts of education as well as trades (such as sewing,
cooking, etc) they may take on as they’re older and prevent them from
a life of slavery.

Jason and Tim are teachers back in the
States, and while we are here they will be making curriculum for the
high school english classes
. In the morning Erika, Kylie and Cameron
are organizing the products in the storage room in order to make
their space more usable and in the afternoon they teach the younger
children english.

hKristen and I are working with the
nurse at the school
. Kristen was a nurse back in the States and
since I worked with children for so many years they chose to put us
with the nurse to help educate her from subjects such as abusive
household situations to tropical diseases. In the morning Kristen
and I go out into the slums to help take care of the nurses’ patients
she has who are 5 years old and younger
. They are also at high risk
and cannot afford medical care. In the afternoons we work on getting
a reference book together for her so she can better the lives of the
children at this origination.

On Thursday and Friday we went to go
and see one of the nurse’s newest patients. He was born on the
January 13th, so he’s a little fella. The mother is 18
and the father doesn’t look much older than she. Kristen was able to
give the new mother information on how to care for her child and
answer questions she had she was also able to do a full body check up on the baby and he is perfectly fine.  Here’s some pictures of the cuteness:

At this organization they do not preach
the gospel of Jesus to these kids. In the school the children wear
Hindu bracelets and others are Buddhist. The nurse we’re working
with is Buddhist
and when Kristen and I met with her this past week
she was expressing concern over some of the children with some health issues
they have going on and she said, “However you feel best to take
care of the children, I will accept. I want these children well.”
Kristen then explained to her that we are Christians and believe that
God heals through prayers and asked if we could pray over the her
patients when we’re working with her.
She did not hesitate to say yes, that whatever helped the children she was more than willing.

Please pray that we are able to
minister to this nurse as we help her with her clients and that God’s
love would be a tangible experience for her
.

I love and miss you all.
