I’ve
been in Swaziland for just under a week now and I’m pretty sure
this
is a place I could see myself for life. This country-the land,
the
people, the everything-is grabbing my heart left and right. I am
loving my time here more than I could have hoped and my fifteen
high
school students are in full agreement!

We
spend most of our days working at local carepoints
where our organization feeds hundreds of children every day.
Most of
whom, this is their only meal for the day. We feed them, hold
them,
carry them, snuggle with them, teach them about Jesus, play
games
with them, sing songs to them, and simply care for them.
Many
of
these children are orphaned from AIDS and receive little
attention
where they currently reside. In other words, we get to step in
and
be the tangible LOVE of God for a whole sea of orphans.
Can
you imagine a better way to spend your days?

My
heart is heavy for this land. Just four years ago the population
was
1.2 million. Today it is less than 950,000. The average life
expectancy is about 35 years old. THIRTY FIVE?!! I’d have less
than
6 years to live. The people are dying off and no one knows what
to
do. HIV continues to rise at an outrageous rate and people are
afraid to know their status
so they continue to live in ignorance even though there is
free
medication for those who are HIV positive.

I
spent last night in a government hospital playing with
malnourished/abandoned babies. Some of the practices there
seemed
almost medieval and the pain and lack of hope was everywhere.
Please
be praying that we would continue to have the opportunity to
bring
truth, hope, love and a God who cares into this land. They are
desperate for Him and so are we!
