We’ve been welcomed with open, gracious arms by Jesus Celebration Church! Upon arrival Pastor and his family had a giant fruit basket prepared for us with a card. They immediately began serving us and have not stopped. Their excitement of us arriving was pure joy. We jumped into prayer of thanksgiving and were able to begin seeing all they had prepared for us for this month in great anticipation. The church has graciously welcomed us, they even have had our pictures hanging in the church for the past month in preparation for our arrival. On our first night, as a team, we all began to squeal with excitement about what this month would hold.
Our days begin at 6:30am waking up with devotion and prayer with the family and those staying here. In the morning to mid afternoon we visit homes in the community. As we pray for them we get excited about questions asked and smiles shown. One of my favorite moments from this has been the child I have gotten to see twice now. Once because he was ushered into the same barber shop as us during a huge rain storm and the other because he joined the group of children that followed me and the translators between a few shops.
During the evenings we participate in their services. Whether they are in the church or in homes, it’s a joyous celebration of worship. A few of us have spoken now and it makes me burst with excitement to hear what my teammates have to share. It’s so neat how in these four months and the privilege it is to see their hearts growing and sharing God’s love.
Meals here have been incredible! They serve us such tasty dishes and serve fresh fruit juice with every meal. We have more than enjoyed each meal.
At night I laugh hard during our times with the daughters of the pastor and their friends. Last night as the power was out we sang Christmas stories and shared our traditions. They are eager to learn about our culture and kind when we need explanation or guide nice. They continually participate with chores all day long but insist we cannot help. Their gracious welcome is brought with smiles, joy, and kindness.
Welp, this is just a brief cap of the first week here! Hope y’all are enjoying the Christmas Season!
