Happy Mother’s Day Momma!!! I’m grateful for the example my mom has led to enjoy life, care for others, work hard, be humble, and to rely on God.
To celebrate this day, I want to share a scripture my mom has shared with me time and time again. I can remember the first time my mom brought this Psalm to me and the joy it brought then. This psalm demonstrates the the power He has, the peace and comfort He brings, the guidance He has and His hope. I often turn to this passage in times of fear, new circumstances, times when I do not know how to pray for the circumstances others are facing and also to pray of thankfulness.
Recently I read “Traveling Light.” Max Lucado does a great job at breaking down the psalm and pointing out the special significance of the imagery and words David used to write this psalm. In chapter 3, he reminds the reader that because God is the Shepherd, we do not need to be self-reliant. This is a great reminder for the time ahead as I don’t know where I’ll be sleeping, what I will eat, who I will meet, where I will be exactly, how often I will get to speak with family and friends, or what I will be doing. But I do know that He is my Shepherd. I do not need to have all the answers. (And y’all, that is relief! ) I’m excited to see how my Shepherd has prepared the time ahead.
*This special version of the psalm was shared with my mom a few years ago. I hope it can me something to you.
Psalm 23
The Lord is my Shepherd – That’s Relationship!
I shall not want – That’s Supply!
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures – That’s Rest!
He leadeth me beside the still waters – That’s Refreshment!
He restoreth my soul – That’ s Healing!
He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness – That’s Guidance!
For His name sake – That’s Purpose!
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death – That’s Testing!
I will fear no evil – That’ s Protection!
For Thou art with me – That’s Faithfulness!
Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me – That’s Discipline!
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies – That’s Hope!
Thou annointest my head with oil – That’s Consecration!
My cup runneth over – That’s Abundance!
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life – That’s Blessing!
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord – That’s Security!
Forever – That’s Eternity!
