This month looks incredibly different. It’s different to be making our own schedule, to be finding things on our own, to be independent of any organization and to be relying on His guidance each morning. This week has been filled with opportunities to get to know our new city. Without a host we’ve had to put in energy into finding good places to eat, places to go and things to know. We’ve walked from district one through district three, and back again a few times now. (Yes, hunger game fans, they call them districts) We’ve seen their cathedrals, a bit of France with the Notre Dame, and a pretty pink one. We visited the War Reunification museum, hearing and seeing the effects on the Vietnam side of the war. We sat at Turtle Lake, which is a pond in the middle of an intersection.

We’ve tried the local food. Even yesterday we knew we were local when we couldn’t order in English and we had no idea what to pay but just listened to the man with a calculator. We have also found great tourist food, visiting our favorite, Zeus, twice already. And we have our favorite smoothie cart, fresh and ready for our morning breakfast rift around the corner. But most importantly we’ve begun to meet people.

While on the bus yesterday Chase had a great conversation with the lady sitting right beside him. The conversation was perfectly fitting to the things we had previous talked about earlier that day. We ran into a woman at the pink Cathedral who gave us insight of the catholic traditions of Vietnam. She was so sweet and generous with information. We have even met friends who’ve let us join in on their morning round of Sepak takraw.
It’s a game of volleyball, only instead of using hand you use your feet and head like soccer. Each morning they have invited back again for the next day. An our host, she’s this sweet older lady who graciously welcomes us back at the end of each day. Her and her workers have warm smiles and despite the language barrier, we feel we’ve become great friends. It’s these kind of connections that we get fueled up by. We are excited to grow these relationships to continue getting to know what He has in store for this month.

No, we haven’t had an opportunity to meet with any organizations or churches. But we have sent emails and begun some correspondence. We are remaining hopeful that we’ve only just begun to skim the surface of this new month. It’s been neat to see how We have been growing as a team and as individuals.

As the month continues pray with us as we search for the Unsung Heroes of Siagon. And if you have any suggestions or connections in this area, we’d love your input!
