So, today I leave for official World Race training camp in Gainesville, GA!
What is “Training Camp”? Living in a tent for a week & training for… Wait, what are you training for? For LIFE, baby!
Basically, it’s the World Race crammed into a week. From everything I hear, which isn’t that much (many surprises are in store apparently!), it is meant to make our world small: just me & God, and then open it back up. And to give us a healthy taste of life in the field.
This cool video sums it up really well!
But other than that, I don’t know what to expect.
Maybe:
- heat
- rain
- red Georgia dirt
- lots of singing
- soul work
- meeting my *SQUAD-MATES (L-SQUAD*)
- wearing lots of blue (that’s our squad color)
- sweat
- mosquitoes
- tent & sleeping bag life
- maybe showers? maybe not?
- journaling
- squad bonding
- dancing (YASSSSS)
- and hoping I packed everything I need
- But actually then re-packing everything because I literally went to REI yesterday morning to get some stuff.
This is a trial run, which is great because I am so so not ready to be packed for the actual Race yet! I will be, though. I already have some good adjustments to make for Launch… smaller packing cubes, lighter sleeping bag, Pro-Lite sleeping pad, different clothes, and better pack organization.
But that’s the point of training camp… figuring it out by DOING. and just GOING. I’ve spent so much time planning and thinking over things in my mind, I’m excited to just let go & receive what God has for me this week. To finally get to DO some of the things I’ve been waiting and preparing to do! And I have had constant, small reminders this week that God is in control, so I just have to do what I have to do. Whatever I’m worried about, He’s already got it. So we’re good.

I call this “ex-sorority girl/cheerleader/kind of spirit hippie who is pretending to understand camping. outcome unknown.”
Likely no more updates for the week…?
Because tonight I will be in Georgia and with my squad mates!
I promise to update you all when I return!
Please pray for me and my squad.
For the basics, like I’m not too good at camping or packing well and it’s supposed to rain all week.
Also for my spiritual: to be open, willing, ready, and hungry to hear from God and to be open with my squad-mates and leaders. To be ready to change and fully accept all the teaching that is comin’ my way! For Squad bonding and for FUN!
The Plan:
Leaving at 5:30am from Indy & driving to Nashville, meeting up with some fellow Racers, and car-pooling to Gainesville & Adventures In Missions. Gonna be 2 LONG travel days, but I better get used to it, right??
BIG UPS
Big shout outs to everyone who has gotten me this far!! To my team of supporters: THIS IS INCREDIBLE. How am I already so close to my next fundraising goal?? THANK YOU for your faithfulness, generosity, and partnership. It truly is making an impact already.
Also, to my mom, dad, Brie, Carmen, and Geneva for helping me get packed up & talking me through decisions like which head scarf to bring? What do I do without my actual sleeping pad? What is a sleeping pad? Wait, what brand of sandals are good for this? Wait, packing cubes..?? What if I cry a lot? I couldn’t do it without you guys!
Thanks for helping me pack it all in there!! And making silly faces with me!
I love you all!!
*Squad = The 40-50ish people who will be traveling on Route 5 with me. I will have a smaller team of 4-8 who I will live with consistently, but my big “L-Squad” will debrief together at the end of each month, travel together, grow together, etc.
P.S. Comments keep me blogging and keep my heart & mind focused… I really, really love reading what’s on your hearts and minds! Leave some love! 🙂
P.P.S. I promise to be in contact soon! Just know the past few weeks have been hectic getting everything ready 🙂 If you’d like to support me now, send me an e-mail at [email protected] or click “Support Me!” above! My team is rocking & I’d love to have you with me!
