Country: Vietnam
Dates: May 8th-May 26th, 2019
Team Name: The Rhodashians! (New team)
Local Currency: Vietnamese Dong
Local Language: Vietnamese
Ministry Partner Name: Harvest Field Tours/ taught English at PooPooDoo English Center
Ministry Partner Location: Tam Ky, Vietnam
Living accommodations: My team stayed in brand new, never-lived-in apartments just a few minutes away from our school. We slept two to a room, shared a bed, but had hot showers! Hands down the nicest living accommodations on the Race. We were treated VERY well by the English Center since we were native English speakers (learning English is of high value in Vietnam).
Meals: The new apartments weren’t quite move-in ready, so we didn’t have a working stove, oven, or any cookware. We usually ate street food, and found a lady that sold fresh baguettes. Vietnamese food was hit or miss, but I found my favorite noodle vendor and never really went anywhere else. THE COCONUT COFFEE THOUGH. There was a coffee shop on almost every corner, and the coconut coffee is something I won’t forget. Think piña colada meets espresso, blended, sweet and a dream in a cup. Vietnamese coffee is also a favorite, and you can find it at your local Whole Foods in the USA. 🙂
