In the words on Sam Wise
“If I take one more step, it’ll be the farthest away from home I’ve ever been.”
Its true… at the beginning of the month when the plane from New York City was flying to the Domincian Republic, I was leaving the Untied States which I had never done before. This Sunday will be the longest time I have ever spent away from my family… Thats kind of a big deal for me….
Anyways…
So month 1 is done… THAT’S CRAZY!
I loved our ministry in the Dominican Republic. I got to prayer walk, help write and teacher English, and put together a woman’s curriculum. I enjoyed all of them.
We are headed to debrief on Sunday, which is in Santo Domingo. Then we are leaving for our next country, HAITI, on the 6th i believe.
I wanted share quickly some of the daily things that we encountered here in the DR.
1. The food….Alot of carbs… which i am not use, but i am so thankful for the mounds of rice and beans that we got… i swear im not being sarcastic. I love all the fresh food opportunities we had. There was a fruit/veggie stand down the road and we were able to buy avocados, watermelon, and other fresh veggies.
2. Our living space… I loved it! Everyone had a choice to either sleep in a dorm or tent. I decided to stay in the dorms. Everyone had a mat and some had a mattress. But i enjoyed sleeping with everyone in the same area. We had running water thank goodness! The showers were a little on the cold side, but it was awesome when you were hot a sweaty from ministry or a workout. We weren’t allowed to flush the toilet paper which didn’t take to long to get use to because you would have to fish it out if you dropped it in the toilet. The view… was ridiculous! There is a pool deck that over looks the mountains! Tell me you don’t experience God seeing the sunrise everyone morning. I had so much joy seeing that every morning. It was one of the many sign God showed me to tell me that He loved me.
3. Lajas… Everyone is so friendly. Its completely normal to be invited in to someones home that you dont know and just talk. Some of our squad was able to pray and evangelize for ministry time… its alot easier to do that when people are more open to listening and actually want to talk. They are also vulnerable. They would tell us things that you normally you would only tell close friends and family. Their kind sweet souls were so refreshing. I loved walking up and down the streets saying hello to everyone. It was so easy to start a conversation.
I might have more to add later but for now those are the things I wanted to share with yall.
