Jenny and Ernesto picked us up at 6:20am yesterday morning. I had to get up before the sun was even high enough to wake me. They had to wake even earlier, to ready themselves and their 4 and 6 year old children for school, and drive at least 45 minutes to get us. Our day continued with the above list.
We stopped only to eat lunch for a short time. The kids and us took naps while driving and waiting in quite a bit of traffic. Jenny and Ernesto couldn’t. They never seemed to tire or stop. After our time sharing with the kids in their neighborhood, we were very tired, but very satisfied. Ernesto took us out to the street to see the sunset orange sky fade over the hill, and told us how it is God’s way of showing him at the end of the day that he is where he is supposed to be, and God will take care of him and his family.
This list of stuff is what we did in one day. Jenny and Ernesto do this everyday. They also visit the poorer communities in the city to hand out food and clothes. Occasionally Ernesto goes into the city to sell things on the street, but for the most part this is their job. This is how they raise their kids. This is their passion. They have worked in founding a ministry called Tocando Vidas. They don’t have any other staff, or office support or marketing, or advertising. They don’t have funding or a budget. They have moved to a smaller home in a less-safe community with all these children that are often alone during the day and need support. They have had to sacrifice and give a lot of themselves, over and over. It is very hard sometimes, there are many times when they wonder why they are even doing this.
But seeing their passion and the way they serve, I have no other way to explain it than, their hearts are completely after the heart of Jesus. They were such an inspiration to my team and I, true unsung heroes.
If you are interested in partnering with them in anyway, or want to learn more information, please let me know, and I will get you in contact with them.
