San Antonio; is probably my favorite Pueblo of the month. It is the most remote and difficult to get to by vehicle. It has the best view. One of my top favorite ways to worship is through experiencing “nature”/God’s creation. So that is a big reason that I love San Antonio so much. Also the agriculture. The hillside and road in is covered with growing terraces, greenhouses, and farm fields. Like I listed before; cabbage, carrots, zucchini, corn, onions, peas, blackberries, radishes- in such large quantities Third, and most important reason this village catches my heart, is the people. Its kind of funny because, unlike most Latin people I’ve met so far, they weren’t as warm and friendly. They are hard working, deeply passioned, and protective. They guard their hearts and their town and people well. But I can see their heart. I see it in the way that one of the leaders/elders wouldn’t refer to us as “gringos” because it is slightly rude and offensive. I see it in the widow, in her gratefulness, in the way she serves her community and cares for her children. I see it in the dedication and hard work, in the teamwork of the field workers. It is a heart and lifestyle that relates heavily to me and my heart.
I don’t want to change them, I don’t want to disrupt their patterns, but I so strongly desire their heart. I wish I could spend more time with them. I wish I could learn from them, work beside them, live like them, and love them better. But that takes time, and we will be in Honduras in a week. It is slightly saddening, but even writing this I see how much God has confirmed these specific passions and people in my life. Whether it is San Antonio, another time on the race, or back home after the race, I don’t want to waste this passion I have for this heart.
