On January 9, we were up at 3am (midnight in California), and we piled all our stuff into a couple vans, heading to the airport. As treasurer for my team, I got to check in all my team members, pay for their checked baggage, and hand out boarding passes. I slept while we waited for our plane in the airport, slept on the plane, slept on the bus ride to our housing. Yep, I was really tired and could hardly stay awake.

We are staying in some dorms at a youth camp (no campers while we are here), because the ministry site we’ll working at is not safe for so many women stay live in. The view from my dorm window is of the beach. The sands are dark because of volcanic ash, but the water is warm and beautiful. Below is a picture of my “backyard” for the next 3 weeks.

We have a couple free days before starting. Apparently Monday is a holiday here; so we start on Tuesday. We will be working at a soup kitchen, as well as working with people who are drug addicts and HIV victims. I should have some good opportunities to practice my less-than-conversational Spanish. And I’m pretty excited and scared for the opportunity to love and serve the people here.

God has really been reminding me of His ability to do above and beyond what we ask or imagine (Eph. 3:20), and I feel like He is wanting to increase my trust in Him. I want to trust him without reservation or pretense or conditions. I feel ready and eager to pushed to new levels of faith.
