I’m in a world where:

  • Our mode of transportation is by foot or sitting in the bed of a pickup truck

  • Punishing criminals may involve tying them to a tree to be bitten repeatedly by thousands of angry ants, burning at the stake, or both – called Community Justice

  • Death Road really is known for how many people have died trying to drive on it in past years… quite the adventure to drive on it. Hopefully I’ll have some video to share our drive

  • Bug bites leave big painful, itchy welts

  • The mountain ranges are the most beautiful I’ve ever seen

  • Hard work includes carrying chain-link fences, chopping trees with machetes, clearing a field of dead trees, carrying hundreds of rocks to reinforce road integrity, and planting 200 shrubs

  • They eat freeze-dried potatoes that look like poop

  • My team gets to be on Bolivian tv and radio, inviting the people of Caranavi to our outreach

  • People celebrate Carnaval, a strange combo of Halloween-like activities and Mardi Gras

  • You can sense the tension of spiritual forces battling for the hearts, minds, and wills of the people
