Have you ever run a road race?
If not you should. So much fun! Sometimes I get choked up with tears in my throat at road races because I get so pumped!!! There is such an energy about it, such a community of people that are going to cheer you on from the sidelines, or as they pass by you struggling on a tough mile. Such a rush! It takes discipline, perseverance, and pushing through when your body absolutely wants to slow down. All for that reward of running across the finish line, endorphins flowing, knowing you kicked butt and finished that thing!
Convincing you to run a road race is not the point of my blog (but really you should..). When I describe my love for races, it’s sounds an awful lot like this World Race that I’m on. And man is that finish line getting closer?
My favorite road race distance is a half marathon (13.1 miles). There are good and bad things about reaching mile 11. The good part is you can let go and give it all you got, with no fear of daunting miles to come. It’s a pretty straightforward race at that point. However, convincing yourself to go all out when your body is dragging can be tough. It’s the point in the race when you could easily let yourself just coast through the end, it wouldn’t affect your time too much in just a mile or so, and either way you cross the finish line.
I don’t want to coast through this last month of the Race. I want to sprint through the weariness. I want every step and every hug to be strong and not half-hearted in the few days and miles we have left. I need to cross that finish line giving it my all.
Running makes your heart strong, especially in a Race like the one I’m on.
Push through! Finish strong.
Month 11, BRING IT ON!!
Only caught a few, but had fun and got messy doing it.
