worship idols-idols carved of rock and stone. I have heard comments from people wondering how people could worship
false gods such as Buddha. And yes, I
wonder that too. All you have to do is
look around you and see that there is a God of love and beauty, of power and
grace; one where we do not have to work for the love and intimacy that we
desire.
Yet, these people are not the only ones who worship
idols. I do to, and so do you I am
guessing. Ours are not in the forms of a
god, but in the forms of many other things such as TV, movies, working out,
food, people, etc. In small amounts they
are not a bad thing-God created them for us to enjoy-but in large amounts they
become something that we worship. We do
not call it that, but it is the truth. We go to these things to fill us up, to find happiness, to find
intimacy. It is a sad reality, and most
people ignore it (myself included). Whatever we spend most of our time focusing on, whatever consumes our
lives is our idol. Yes we can, and need
to, enjoy these things but once they take over God’s role it becomes a bad
thing.
Do you spend more time with God or with something else?
Who/what do you focus on most? What or
who is your idol?
