Wingapo Friends!

I’m stoked to announce that I’ve raised over 50% of my goal!  Praise be to God! Thank you to everyone who has decided to be apart of this journey with me.

I’ve decided to answer some of the most frequently asked questions in this post.  Let me know what questions I’ve missed, and I’ll answer them as well.

1.  How did you find out about the World Race?

I first heard about the World Race in a conversation with one of the missionaries I worked with in Peru.  Sometime in my last year of college I started researching programs involving travel and/or missions.  I came across the World Race and remembered the name, so I investigated it further.

2.  How are you raising support?

I’ve raised the vast majority of my support so far by making small group presentations and asking those who feel called to join me on the race.  Support has far exceed what I could have thought to expect.  I have sold a few t-shirts as well.  Additionally I have been working two part time jobs.  All the money has gone toward gear and anything left (in addition to any money I made at Disney) will be going to the race as well.

3.  How/what will you be eating?

This question always surprises me.  I have no idea.  I will eat whatever is put in front of me.  Rumor has it that we will be eating on about $5 a day.  In some countries this covers more than others.  As long as I eat, I’m good.

4.  What are you most nervous about?

When I have anxiety, its mostly about being around so many people for so long.  As a chronic introvert, I find the thought overwhelming.  That having been said, I know that if I can work at Disney, I can definitely do a travel team.

5.  What are you most excited about?

I have been so homesick for missions for the past two years.  I am beyond excited to be on the international field again.

6.  What do you plan to do after the race?

Great question! I would love to know too.  I have plans, but none worth mentioning simply because I do not believe it is possible to experience that much of the world and not be changed.  I would be flabbergasted if I did not return a different person from when I left.  As such, I expect I will have different goals when I return.

7.  Will you be able to contact your family?

Yes.  A good rule of thumb is where there are drugs, there is cell service and internet.  I’ve had better cell service in the Andes mountains and Amazon Jungle than in Cobb county.  The goal is to update my blog at least once a month, and hopefully Skype with the family when I do so.

8.  What kinds of things will you do while on the race? Will you have free time?

I will more or less be doing whatever I’m told.  It’s like being the mission field intern.  I might be farming in some countries, teaching small job skills (like bracelet making) in others.  I’m flexible, so I’ll do as I’m told.

9.  What about personal hygiene?

We will go about it however the people of the country we are in do so.  Mostly, that means it will be the same.  Our toilets may not flush, and we may be using a cup and bucket for a shower, but hey I get pretty grungy at camp so what’s new.

10.  What kinds of things will you take with you on the race?  A hiking backpack, a tent, a sleeping pad, about a weeks worth of clothes, a water purifying water bottle, an eno, a bible, a journal, and however many books I can put in my bag with out it exceeding 45 lbs.

11.  When do you leave?

We train in August and depart in October.  We’ve been told October 1st or 2nd.  Not too long!

Thanks again!  If I missed any questions comment, or message them to me and I will try to address them! Have a wonderful day!
