I am writing you from Comalteco, a small village near Veracruz, Mexico. I have to say that so far, the Mexico leg of our journey has not coincided with my expectations.

For starters, Mexico is so beautiful! Wide open vistas with mountains in the background, shimmering lakes, lush foliage. My experiences in the border towns (dry, dusty, dirty) are not true of the country as a whole. I hope we’ll be able to get some pictures up so you can enjoy the scenery along with us.

The help and hospitality of the Mexican people as we’ve encountered various van problems… our team has begun joking about our ‘ministry to Mexican mechanics’. We’ve had some 5 repairs done, and thanks to various generosities, we’ve only had to pay $85!

Surprise… Tampico is a large city with various familiar food chains. My favorite quote of the trip: “Tampico has a TGI Fridays??? Dang it! We don’t have those in West Virginia!!!” (Ashley).

Finally, please pray extra hard for the health of our team members. Since we arrived at our ministry location a few days ago, I have been totally laid up with first, a cold, then as of yesterday some type of flu bug or food poisoning… It’s frustrating to be here, wanting to serve others, and depending on them to take care of me instead. Gary and Casey have also been fighting the bug… pray that they’ll also recover quickly, and that no one else would be struck down.

Until next time… remember, Dios es bueno, and I love you guys!
