I believe there are many different types of “missions.” You could be serving in some foreign country, you could be a financial support for missionaries in the field, or you could support those same people in prayer. Not everyone is called to go out and live in a place they are unfamiliar with, and that is OKAY. The Lord wants to use each one of his children, you just need to be willing and available to hear the call specific to you.

For me personally, I have always felt called to the mission field. When I was younger we had missionaries come to my church and talk about their experiences in the field. Whenever I listened to people talk about missions my heart would always start to race and I would get excited knowing that one day that would most likely be me. However as time went on I grew up and always figured, I could go serve later in life. However the Lord had different plans for my life, now not later.

So during college I did multiple service-learning trips, these trips weren’t religious based but I still figured I was doing what the Lord had called me to do… I was serving wasn’t I? However I wasn’t involving the Lord in what I was doing. It took a trip to Haiti with my church from back home a year after college for me to finally say, yes Lord I will go. I needed to completely surrender to him and his plan for me. So that is what I did, and I couldn’t be more happy with my decision to follow him.

After that week long trip I interned in Haiti for about four and a half months, and from there I have been involved with Haiti ever since. This was about 2 years ago, and I plan on being involved in mission work for as long as the Lord wants me here. I foresee that being a long time : )
