During our 3 months here in South Africa, my team and I are partnered with First Community Resource Center (FCRC) in Hanover Park and stay at Camp Joy, a gang and drug restoration center for men. Camp Joy has programs for guys seeking change, healing, and a way out of their former lives. This past month has been holiday season, so many of the programs and centers around the area have been closed. However, the center opened and programs started again on the 11th, and things are getting back to the normal routine- I’m excited to see how the ministry works and what the Lord has in store for us these last 2 months!
Even when programs shut down for a while, the Lord was still at work! He gave us opportunities to do a kids’ program and get involved in the community, to grow personally as well as together as a team, and especially to build relationships as we’ve lived life here-with our hosts and with the men staying at the facility.
The relationships have definitely impacted me most so far- seriously, words will never be able to adequately explain what God does through relationships and people. I can easily tell you about a feeding program, a VBS, or teaching English, but there’s something about the way the Lord works through relationships and people that words can’t quite capture, however I’m going to try!
In the next few blogs I hope to tell of people’s stories, of God’s hand at work, and to share a little bit of what I’ve lived, learned, and loved over here in Strandfontein, South Africa.
God bless 🙂
