The verse is from Acts 26:17-18, where God is talking to Saul (who once persecuted Christians). What he tells him both converts him from his evil ways and gives him authority to go out and do God’s work. God tells him “I am sending you to open their eyes, so that they may turn from darkness to light, from the power of Satan to the power of God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in me”. This is a story of redemption, not only for Saul who finds a new identity in Christ and becomes Paul, but also for those that Paul will bring to the light. It is a commission to go and heal the sick world that he has just been saved from, and just like Paul I am hearing the same commission to go out and help people turn from darkness to the Light of Christ. That is why I am going out into the world through a program called the World Race.
The World Race is an 11-month Christian mission trip to 11 different countries around the world. Through ministry, community, and self-discovery and vulnerability, World Racers develop broken hearts that propel their hands to act for God’s kingdom around the globe. My team and I will be traveling to the Philippines, Malaysia, Cambodia, Thailand, Uganda, Rwanda, Sudan, Ukraine, Romania, Nepal, and India, loving and serving greatly. While I cannot tell you an exact itinerary of my year or service, common experiences include serving in partnership with churches and ministries in local communities to preach the Gospel and plant churches, working in orphanages, teaching English in schools, spending time in prayerful healing for the sick, ministering to women and children who trapped in prostitution as a result of human trafficking, and fighting the battle against child sacrifice. I am dedicating a year of my life to bring restoration and hope of God’s love to many tribes and nations. I am dedicating a year of my life to fight against spiritual warfare in catering to the ignored “untouchables”, the lost and hurting, and those enslaved in darkness. It is a huge undertaking, but God is creating a deep desire and ache in my heart for His people, and I am going out to point them to the ultimate Healer. This will be a great opportunity to serve in all sorts of capacities and to see and be a part of how God is working around the world in and through different people in different cultures. I know that it will be challenging, but my heart leaps for joy at the adventure ahead of me!
One of God’s many names is Jehovah-Jireh, the LORD will provide, and through faith and trust I know He will. Ultimately my prayer is that He will do that through you. I must raise $15,500, which covers all of my expenses on the field for about a year, and I need your help to do it!
