Many people these days find themselves asking the question, ‘Is this all there is to life?’ or ‘what is my purpose in life?’. I too allowed my mind to wonder these things. Don’t get me wrong, I love my friends, family, university and the many adventures I go on. However there was that underlying question of ‘is there more?’
I have a strong desire to help those people that are less fortunate than I am, those who have been outcast and have lost all hope in this world. I want to lead them to the only One in whom joy and hope can be found.
And as a result I have decided to take part in the World Race next year. We will be adventuring to 11 countries in 11 months. This includes backpacking and living minimally through Columbia, Ecuador, Peru, Spain, Bulgaria, Montenegro, Serbia, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, and the Philippines. Life in each country will look slightly different with us caring for orphans, doing construction, praying for the sick, and building relationships within the community.
In preparing for this trip I have had to humble myself as I really don’t like asking people for anything, but at the same time I am aware that I cannot do this alone. And so the first thing that I am asking for is prayer. Please pray for me, as well as my team, that we might have courage, strength and an enduring and open heart to help all the people we meet.
Secondly I would like to ask for your financial support in any way possible, no amount is too small, and I will greatly appreciate it all! This mission trip will cost $17400 (R240 000) which will include my food, air and road travel, and lodging for the entire year. I understand that bigger amounts are not necessarily feasible at once and so there is an option to contribute monthly which will be hugely appreciated!
I will be updating this blog leading up to, as well as during my trip and it will include my adventures within these countries, my thoughts on what we experience as well as the way in which my heart is changed by the people we meet.
