Colombia – the first country is over already. But WOW! God has truly showed up in such unexpected ways!
The first 10 days comprised of a training camp which included, getting to know my fellow 18 squad mates who are now already considered family, spiritual training, physical training, and the safety and logistic aspects involved in travelling the world.
Following this time we were split into teams of 5 as we each headed into different areas/cities of Colombia following where we believed the Lord to be calling us. This involved adopting the lifestyle of Life=Ministry and Ministry=Life. This includes living a life of truely loving everyone we encounter and intentionally stopping for ‘the one’ person who we believe to need some encouragement that day/ needs to be noticed/ a conversation (to be heard)/ a prayer/ a hug or even just a smile . It means not having designated off time from ministry work, but rather incorporating ministry into every aspect of everyday.
My team is comprised of 4 other incredible women of God, (Kylee, Christazia, Grace, Emily) who I love and have already learnt so much from! My team and I went to two cities in Colombia, Pereira and Salento. I loved them both so much, each for a different reason.
Pereira involved meeting with a lot of teenagers and young adults. I thoroughly enjoyed this despite struggling with the language barrier. Thankfully we have two teammates who know enough Spanish to get by.
Following this we went to Salento. Salento was unbelievably beautiful! Here we got to talk to a lot of backpackers who were traveling around the world in pursuit of adventure and meaning. It was amazing to be able to share with them what we were doing and the meaning behind it all.
Within the last month God has been so faithful and I have already met such amazing people, each with their own stories, as a result of adopting this new lifestyle and I love it! I already have so many stories to share, but I decided that this blog is the introduction into what I am doing. I don’t know how to encapsulate all the experiences I’ve had over the month in a blog post and so from now on I’ll try to blog more often. It will display the stories of the people that I meet, the things I am encountering, the adventures I am loving and the way I am seeing the Lord move and work in our day to day life.
This month has been absolutely incredible and I am thrilled to still have another 10 months to learn, grow and serve amongst these awesome people!
Thank you again to all the people who have supported me so far in getting here! There is another financial deadline for the end of February which I am $2000 (R23 800) short of, and I would greatly appreciate any support in reaching it!
For all my South African friends please don’t let the dollar sign deter you, it can also be sent to my bank account after which I can transfer it if you prefer. I am beyond grateful for it all!
Much love X
