What does your day to day look like?

Tuesday-Friday my team goes to ministry around 10:30am. We get picked up around 4. Then we go home, shower, eat dinner (around 5 or 6), then later on we have team time.

Mondays (my favorite) is our sabbath. So we usually have nothing all day except for worship usually midday. We are supposed to spend the day hanging out with the Lord.

Saturday is our adventure day. As for being in Nsoko Swaziland there is not much for adventures. We can really do whatever but theres not lots to do. Theres Savemor (which is a gas station/grocery store). Or we can go to Nesila, the only restaurant around. Sometimes we get to go to this guys house named Leo. He has a pool and wifi! Ive only been once.

Sundays: We have church at 11, we walk there its about a mile away. Church lasts from 2 to 4 hours. We walk back and then its cleaning time! And every now and then our squad leaders will prepare a talk on Sundays.

Everyday except for Saturday and Mondays: We have devos at 7am. That looks like all of gathering in the kitchen in silence and stating our morning off in the word and with Jesus but together. I wake up a little before 6 these days and run. After devos we make breakfast and depending on the day we either go to ministry or church!

What is your ministry?

Normally: We go to our care point, a place where kids come to eat and play, then older kids come later after school. Each team has a different care point. Once we get there the kids are getting ready to eat so we eat too (the usual PB&J). Then we just play with the kids. Sometimes we will go on a prayer walk, where we just walk for miles and pray and go visit people and pray for them in their homes. Sometimes we will get to teach the kids a lesson. They are very young and don’t know much English so it looks like us teach them songs and dancing. And singing Joy to the World because for some reason they know that whole song.

Not normally: I have these two separated because this is Africa and we are not on a strict schedule and things happen. Things like our usual van that takes us won’t start, or theres no wood at the care point to make a fire for food so no kids will be there, or its too cold outside so no kids will come, or simply our Shepard is going to manzini on Friday so we can’t go. On these days we always do different things. Sometimes going to another teams care point, sometimes going to Matata (A bigger grocery store and more shops) to evangelize, and sometimes painting a building. It changes every time.

What is a shepard?

Every care point has a shepard. They are just the person in charge they tell us what we are going to do that day. They help translate for us. They are the person leading the way.

What has God taught you?

My response to that is: Which hour of the day?

I will write more blogs about this specifically

What do you eat?

Breakfast: I usually eat oatmeal. Sometimes eggs and sometimes toast. (Very normal breakfasts)

Lunch: Pb&J and a apple or orange

Dinner: We have a chief that helps a tea cook every night he name is Dolly she is wonderful. Dinners vary a lot. We have around 4 Swazi meals a week and 3 American meals. A Swazi meal looks like beef or chicken, beats, and pop (Looks like mash potatoes, but is white corn and not mash potatoes) I didn’t like it at first but now I kind of love it. American meal: spegetti, taco salad, sloppy joes. Theres more but I can’t think of any right now. We also get salad a good amount of times with our meal.

Where do you sleep?

I sleep on the lower bunk on a bunk bed in a room with 18 girls.

How do we get places?

To ministry we have our van and we have our wonderful driver named Sandela. HE picks u sup and drops us off everyday. Him and I have a father, daughter like relationship. Most just because he doesn’t say much but he calls me friend and asks if Im okay probably like every other day.

Non ministry days: We take a cumbi. Vans that drive around that we stuff way too many people into and they take a very long time to stop for us. They are like bus stops but its not a bus and there is no scheduled time that it will pick us up.

How is it living with all those people?

Personally, I like it because I really enjoy being with people. At first having “quiet” time was weird because you are around so many people trying to spend time with the Lord. But now its cool because I just put in my head phones and when I done I can take them our and be in a conversation with people 10 seconds later.  Its fun to never have to watch a. Movie alone and to always have people doing things that you can join (like playing cards, experimenting with baking, watching movies, playing murder in the dark, worshiping… I could go on). But at the same time I can go somewhere and have time to myself as well. For example right now, Im in the dinning/common room writing this blog (8:35pm) and there is 4 people making smores in the microwave and a team drawing pictures of pumpkins getting ready for our halloween party tomorrow night. And I can hear people somewhere outside worshiping. But still I have found time to write and focus alone with people all around.
