To my parents,

Six months ago we said goodbye. You told me, you knew this is exactly where I was meant to be. I couldn’t be here without your guidance and support the past 18 years.

An overdue thank you

Dad, this part is for you:

Thank you for believing in me. You have supported me in everything I have ever wanted to do, no matter what.

Your passion for everything you do is a constant reminder to do what you love.

You have taught me to always stand up for what I believe.

You taught me the importance of being on time. I can hear you now – “If you’re five minutes early, you’re on time. If you’re on time, you’re late. If you’re five minutes late, you’re just rude.”

You also taught me how to drive (probably not the easiest task). Thank you for being so patient with me.

Being thousands of miles away, made me realize I miss your dad jokes. Luckily, I get a little bit of your goofiness in the form of a Snapchat every morning.

Mom, this part is for you:

Thank you for making yourself available and always finding time for me. Thank you for celebrating and mourning with me. For laying in bed with me when I couldn’t sleep. For dropping everything to just be with me.

Thank you for introducing me to the best movie snack (popcorn & Sour Patch Kids).

Thank you for sharing your closet with me. And by that I mean letting me steal all your clothes.

Thank you for knowing exactly what to do to make me feel better when I am sad or sick.

So to you both:

Thank you for showing up. Thank you for going to countless recitals, choir concerts, and sporting events. Thank you for bringing me to 6 AM practices.

Thank you for showing me what true love is. I never questioned if you two loved each other.  I am blessed to have parents that love and cherish each other so much.

I’m one of those kids who shares everything with my parents (maybe an unnecessary amount). Thank you for always listening and being a safe place.

Thank you for going to the store to get poster board at 9 o’clock on a Sunday so I could work on a project I procrastinated all weekend.

Thank you for seeing the best in me, when I can’t see it. You always remind me how proud you are of me.

You’ve always allowed me to have my friends over at any given time. Thank you for throwing me the best birthday parties, letting me have the entire class of 2019 over, and hosting Young Life. Even now that I’m gone, thank you for hosting Spaghetti Sundays for my friends back home. Thank you for making my friends feel welcomed and loved.

You love me, unconditionally. Just like my Heavenly Father. Thank you for reflecting the character of Christ and for loving me so well.

How lucky am I to be raised by the two strongest, loving, and coolest people I know??

Thank you for going above and beyond.

To my best friends, see you tomorrow.

Love always,

Kate
