Yep, you totally read my title correctly. “We’re off like a herd of turtles!”…that’s a Stinson family saying for “we rushed around the hotel packing, saying goodbye, and praying, but traveling with a group of 56 people makes us move at a snail’s pace!”
Where did the saying come from? I really don’t know, but my Mama’s said it as long as I can remember, and it always comes to mind when I’m on a long “road” trip!
So, here I sit at the airport, on the floor, surrounded by drowsy friends, at 2am writing my blog. We can’t check-in for our flight until 3am, so we’ve camped out on the second floor of the Atlanta airport. It’s a pretty sweet set-up, since we’re completely out of the way of other travelers. If you were here, you’d see one of my teammates walking laps around our floor, others deep asleep in their sleeping bags (how did they do that?), others deep in conversation, and a few of us typing away on computers.
In this moment, I feel P Squad covered in a deep peace as we begin our first World Race travel day. We’ve been equipped and prepared. We’ve said goodbye. Now, it’s time and we’re SO ready!
(I LOVE that my “little” brother Daniel stopped by Friday night to hang out and pray together before I left!)
Our Travel Schedule:
- 11pm P Squad gathered in the hotel meeting room
- 12am transportation to the airport began
- 3:30am flight check-in will begin
- 7am fly from Atlanta to Miami
- 9:45am fly from Miami to Quito, Ecuador
- 2:07pm arrive in Quito!
- (TBD) Team Joyous Lights hops in a van/bus and travels about 4 hours to Lago Agrio
In Lago Agrio, my team will partner with a organization called Inca Link, and we’ll specifically help at a church in the city. (The city is apparently located at the base of the Amazon…how cool is that?) Once, we arrive we’ll learn more, so I’ll definitely write a more detailed blog about our ministry for the month.
Until then, thank you for loving me and my team and my squad. I’m blessed beyond measure. Joyful for the adventure God’s planned for my year.
“Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert” (Isaiah 43:19).
Love, Love, Love
Kate
