It all started earlier this week when I came home from ministry to check my emails. I found an email from my boyfriend that contained a link to a video. When I clicked on the link it took me to a Youtube video of a photomontage of the last 3 ½ years. I loved looking through all the pictures of past dates, walks in the park and our road trip this past summer. I needed the trip down memory lane with all of this homesickness running through my blood. The video finished with a little note. He asked me to have a Skype date on Thursday December 6th-our month-iversary. I didn’t think much of it but was still excited for a chance to finally talk since it had been so long.
So Thursday rolled around and I got on Skype at the time he asked. When the Internet finally connected I got to see him. He was wearing my favorite purple dress shirt that he wears just to make me smile-well he sure got me to smile! We talked for a while about what was going on in our lives and caught up on just the regular stuff. The whole time he was acting so different- he wasn’t himself (maybe a little nervous). Anyways, the screen cut out for a moment. I thought “Oh, long distance communication. It was probably the Internet.” When the screen came back again, all I could see were carnation flowers filling the screen. I could hear his roommates singing in the background and in a split second the flowers moved and I could see him kneeling in front of the computer.
Let me spare you all the details and just get to the best part…well, the love of my life asked me to spend the rest of my life with him…I said YES! Obvisously!
It was one of the greatest moments of my life and I don't think anything will top it. I get to spend every day falling more and more in love! I never thought I would actually be proposed to over Skype, and the craziest part about this whole story is that it is completely fake. I made all of it up.
So right now you are probably wondering why I made up this love story and why I'm such a crazy person to joke about this kind of stuff. I hope you are still reading if you haven’t run off in a hissy mad at me for that story…but to be honest, we are all looking for a good love story. We all want something like that to be real. We want the jitters in our heart and the smile from ear to ear. We want to hear of a love that will last forever. We want a love that transcends all that we see in our society and stands the test of time. We want a love that is not jealous of the person walking down the street, or self-seeking. We want a love that doesn’t leave us like the numerous love stories we see on television, love that never disappoints us and always leaves us satisfied. But the thing that we don’t realize is that perfect love can only be found in Jesus.
1 John 4:16 says, “God is love.” And 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 says, “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.”
If we put those two verses together we see that God is all of the things love is. All of the things we are looking for in a good love story are written right here. God is love and in that he is patient, kind, not self-seeking, not rude, etc.
But there is more to this love story. We don’t even deserve this perfect love that we are looking for and have found in God. But…God sent his one and only son to come to earth and live a sinless life to then die a horrible death in order for us to have a relationship with Him. He did all of this so that our sins would be completely forgiven! Jesus was killed on the cross and rose from the grave 3 days later in order to show the fullness and completion of God’s love for us. This is true love, a love that's not afraid to bleed.
I don't deserve to have this perfect love, but God has so graciously lavished me with his love and he does this for you too.

If you have never heard the Gospel before, just know this…You might not think you deserve or even have a love story in your life but that is not true. The God of the Universe is living out the most amazing love story with you right now. He has already given us the sacrifice of his son so that we will live with him for ever and ever and ever. (That right there is better than a fancy diamond ring.) There is someone who wants to forgive you of everything that makes you feel like you don’t deserve this love and in spite of all of your faults, he wants to LOVE you!
There is the amazing love story you were looking for when you clicked on this blog.
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16)
