As we made our way to Nicaragua, we had a layover in Seoul, South Korea- where we saw snow, a layover in Los Angeles- where I saw my Oma, Opa, Aunt Karen, Uncle Curt, Aunt Sue, Uncle Perry, and cousin Melissa, a layover in Houston- where I had my first Chick-fil-A since August, and after 2 and a half days of travel, we arrived in Managua, Nicaragua! We spent the night in Granada before we hopped on a chicken bus and made our way to our final destination, San Jorge. A chicken bus is a big school bus, and you cram as many people on board as possible. There were 2 people to a seat and 2 lines of people filling the aisle way! I got to stand for the 2 hour ride ๐Ÿ™‚

In San Jorge we partnered with Centro Cristiano Church and Pastor Sarah Chamorro. Our ministry for the month was quite unique. Our hosts knew very limited English and we knew even less Spanish, but it is amazing how the Lord can bridge that gap and still allow for some wonderful friendships to be formed.

The main ministry of the church is to provide a lunch for local kids after school. In the morning we would water the many plants in their garden, weed the pepper patch, do prayer walks around the property, help set up for when the kids would arrive for lunch, and just help in any way possible. We helped serve lunch to the kids in the afternoon. We also did various maintenance projects around the property such as painting and cleaning off the fence line.

We had the opportunity to visit several other ‘dining rooms.’ These are essentially churches that did the same as our church, provide lunch for the local children after school. We got to take pinatas to each of these dining rooms, and it was really fun to watch the kids break it open for the candy. At one of the dining rooms we were eating lunch. As we ate we admired the many little chicks running around. The pastor saw that we really liked the chicks, so he gifted each of us our very only little fur ball! I named mine Max ๐Ÿ™‚

For fun we visited Mamma Luz, and she cooked us a really delicious dinner! One weekend we went to San Juan del Sur and spent the day at the beach. And of course we discovered the best thing of all- Eskimo Ice Cream! We were frequented visitors during our time there.

At the end of the month, two of my teammates and I traveled to Granada where we met our parents for the Parent Vision Trip!
