Quiche, Guatemala is not only beautiful, but also quite reminiscent of Colorado!  Hence the nickname we've so fondly given it of Guatemalarado.

After a 20 hour travel day full of planes, layovers, and vans we arrived in Quiche on Sunday.  We´re staying as an entire squad at the hospital in the town.  We´re sleeping in our tents all month, but the complex is great with full showers-bathrooms, a kitchen for us to cook in, and water jugs for clean water.  They taught us how to do laundry in buckets the other morning, but luckily my teams ministry contact this month is allowing us to use their washer and dryer!  So thankful I won't need to worry about bucket washing for at least a few more weeks.

The weather here is beautiful!  Every morning when we walk out of our tents we have an amazing veiw of the mountains.  It's so refreshing to start each day with that view.  The days are a perfect 70 with some afternoon showers and the nights are cool and crisp.  Not the heat and humidity I was expecting!

Our teams are split up at a few different ministries this month.  Some will be helping out at the hospital, a couple are at a construction site helping to build a new church, a couple at a school daycare, another at an orphanage school, and then my team is working at the orphanage that is affiliated with the school.  The name of the orphanage is Casa De Mi Padre (House of my Father).  We´re doing a lot of maintenance at the house, painting walls inside and out and making sure everything is up to date for them.  The kids at the orphanage are absolutely precious!  They love helping us paint, including painting our nails.. and getting to play with us when we´re done with our work for the day.  We even had one of the boys teach my teammate, Cheyenne, how to ride a bike the other day for the first time!  Very comical.  The language boundary isn´t too bad, and my spanish from many many years ago is slowly coming back to me.  Between our broken spanish and their broken english we end up in endless moments of laughter.

Please be praying for Casa de mi Padre this month as we continue building relationships and serving their household.

I´ll be posting another blog soon with more, but wanted to let yall know where your prayers and support are going this month!

One Love,
Kate
