We were asked to write a blog about how we were called to the missions field. This is my story….

Well. This is an interesting situation,
because I really have no particular moment in which I felt I was called
to the missions field. I think I always knew that I wanted to serve and
I always loved an adventure since I’m the type to typically go left
when you tell me to right. Also, as I have said before, the travel bug
bit me when I was in college, and I’m still infected! I get such a rush
being out of the country and exploring/understanding other peoples and
places. In the past, I never knew that travel could be for God’s glory.
I always traveled for myself and was just another tourist in the mob.

But God had something better for me. He is such a MOTIVATOR and I
know that HE KNEW that if there was one way in which I would
passionately scream, “SIGN ME UP FOR SERVING YOU, GOD!” it would be
connected to travel in some way/shape/form. I’m stubborn to a fault and
I was so BORED with “typical” forms of ministry. I mean, sure, I knew I
had a huge call on my life for serving God, but I am not the type of
girl to be found in a church leading worship. I think serving the Lord
in the church is wonderful and so very necessary, but I knew that deep
down I wanted something more radical, more unique, something a bit more
“Kate”….

So then came along the World Race. I had to jump at the chance to
live out of a backpack again and feel the thrill of not knowing what to
expect each day! Dirt? Malnutrition? Abandonement? Bring it on! Ok. I’m
kidding about the malnutrition part…but I think you get the idea! It
has been an interesting two years since I came home from Europe. I
developed a life of stability here in Minnesota, but all the while I
knew that what I truly wanted was change. God had to call me home in
order to work on my heart first, but in the end He sending me out into
the world again! All along He had the plan to revive those desires of
travel, adventure, and service, but in a way and in a timing that is so
UNIQUE and all His own!

So there you go. No crazy moment of revelation in which I was
called to the field. And, to be honest, I think all of us are called to
the missions field each and every day of our lives. The field can
be our workplace, neighborhood, church, or even our friends and family.
The bottom line is that we as believers are all called to the world to
serve others and to love as Christ loved. Because ultimately through
that love and service we can hope to bring others to know Him
personally so they too can experience our awesome and wonderful
God…It’s a pretty huge task, ya know? But, hey, I’m up for the
challenge! 🙂
