My final semester at Boston University is in full swing and it’s hard to believe that less than a month from now I’ll be spending ten days in Georgia at Training Camp, where I will learn everything I need to know about this upcoming adventure. As I’ve transitioned back into my life here in Boston, I’ve had to put the World Race on the back burner in many ways, and I have neglected my responsibility to pursue and care for a team of supporters. However, when my abilities fail, God always comes through.

I’ve been reminded consistently of God’s faithfulness to His promises, and as I think about the adventure ahead, there’s not a doubt that God has already proven Himself faithful in all the small ways and in all the big ways, and I can trust in Him for this entire journey.

With that in mind, He has continued to give me affirmation of my pursuit for 70 supporters. [Read more about why I feel called to build a team of 70 supporters].

From the beginning of this fundraising process, the goal has never been money. It’s been about people from the start. I wanted to make sure I focused more on surrounding myself with a team of prayerful, powerful, compassionate, generous people, rather than focusing on the dollar amount in my account. This process has made me entirely shift my understanding of fundraising and donations, and I began to realize what an incredible opportunity I have not only to invite people into God’s work but also to see Him prove His faithfulness once again.

I’m reading through Numbers right now, and the other day I read a passage that affirmed my pursuit of 70 supporters. Moses is frustrated at the great task of leading the Israelite people through a dark and difficult time, so he says to Lord:

“I cannot carry all these people by myself; the burden is too heavy for me…”

So the Lord responds:

“Bring me seventy of Israel’s elders who are known to you as leaders and officials among the people. Have them come to the tent of meeting, that they may stand there with you. I will come down and speak with you there, and I will take some of the power of the Spirit that is on you and put it on them

They will share the burden of the people with you so that you will not have to carry it alone.

The more I read the Old Testament, the more I am reminded of God’s faithfulness to His people and His promises, and of His goodness to provide us with everything we need. I am excited to see how He provides for me as I continue to prepare for this amazing journey ahead. I know that I can’t do it alone; we’re not meant to – the Lord makes that clear in His great story of Scripture.

While I’m on the Race I will have a great burden to carry – people, relationships, stories, heartbreak, triumph, victory, sorrow, joy. But I am confident that God has chosen 70 people to share this burden with me so that I will not have to carry it alone.
