Cambodia boasts the famous Angkor Wat, a Hindu temple that later became a Buddhist monastery. Hidden for centuries under dense jungle, today Angkor Wat is one of most photographed places in the world. Cambodia itself is struggling to heal from one of the worst genocides in modern history. In the 1970’s, the Khmer Rouge killed over 1.5 million men, women, and children. Faced with inconceivable poverty and desperation, Cambodia became a source, transit point, and destination for human trafficking. The people of Cambodia are hungry for hope and healing.

Adventures in Missions (the organization the World Race is a part of) leased a guesthouse in Siem Reap, Cambodia, and has been using it as a base of ministry. They call it Overflow Guesthouse, as the vision is to be an overflow of God’s love to tourists, mission teams, and all ministry hosts in the country. This guesthouse has been the central hub of operations throughout Southeast Asia. World Race teams have been routed through this base and do ministry throughout the surrounding areas.

Adventures Cambodia is a recently new brand of mission base, tapping into a model of business as missions as they run a guesthouse complete with a cafe and restaurant. They disciple locals as they serve alongside them in business. Overflow plays a large role in filling the gaps between ministry funding sources and long term sustainability. Through this guesthouse, they hope to leverage the movement of mission teams in coordination with long term efforts while providing essential ministry resources, facilities, and services. The vision is to pilot a progressive way of building sustainable missions.

My team and I have partnered with Overflow Guesthouse and are coming alongside them to help around the guesthouse, and work with ministries in the area doing village ministry. They will no longer be hosting teams from Adventures in Missions after our team, so we are helping with this transition. I’ve only been in Cambodia for a short time and I’m already loving it here. Pray over my time in this beautiful country.

That’s all for now. Until next time(:

Yours in Christ,

Karrie
