For the month of August, my team and I have been working with a host family who owns a coffee farm that sells their beans to Phoenix Coffee Roasters, based in Georgia. Phoenix Coffee Roasters is a missional coffee business that grew out of a church, and in Panama the host family grows these beans and all the proceeds from the selling the coffee support local and international missionaries.
We’ve helped the family on their farm, but the majority of the time we’ve been here, we have worked to help build four homes that will house the indigenous workers of the farm in the future. This is a little insight of what our daily life in Panama looked like.
Monday-Friday:
7:00am Breakfast is served by our wonderful hosts who cook homemade meals for us. I heard some people lose weight on the World Race, I most definitely will not lose weight if I continue eating like this. The host family has been so generous to our team.
7:45am We start heading over to work (it’s about a 10-minute ride in the back of a pick-up truck). During our ride over to work, we see some of God’s beautiful creations.
8:00-12:30pm We usually work about 4 ½ hours. From painting to mixing concrete by hand is what our working hours consist of.
12:30-1:30pm Lunch is usually around this time. We are all pretty hungry by this time. And looking forward to the delicious meal that’s prepared for us.
2:00-4:30pm We get back to work. We continue working hard on what’s needed to be done. From setting windows and doors to general clean up around the homes.
4:30-6:30pm A little bit of down time after we’re done working. We use this time to shower and relax a little bit before meal time. Maybe sneak in a nap.
6:30-9pm We have dinner and spend time with the host family. We enjoy each other’s company and let conversations and laughter fill the air.
9-10pm We start settling down for the night
*Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday*
We have a Bible study on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30-7:00am before breakfast
On Saturdays, we have our Bible study from 8:30-9:00am before breakfast
Saturday and Sundays are our free days. We work Monday through Friday and then we’re off on the weekends.
Saturday:
9am is when breakfast is ready for us
Our plans on Saturdays for us varies. After breakfast, we’ll use this day to relax and recuperate from working all week. We’ll blog, maybe catch up on some sleep, or watch a movie. Other times, we’ll go out and do things. We’ve gone to the river and swam, went to a parade, and we’ve gone into town on our Saturdays.
The time for lunch varies depending on what we’ve planned for the day
And then we have dinner in the evenings
Sunday:
9am is when we have breakfast
10:30 We leave for church
10:45-12:15 Church service
After church service, we have lunch around 1pm, depending on if everyone is hungry
The rest of the day is kind of like our Saturdays. Our plans vary, depending on what we’re wanting to do.
And then we have dinner in the evenings
That’s all for now. Until next time(:
Yours in Christ,
Karrie
