After a month of being in the beautiful country of Costa Rica I learned a lot about myself, community, and what ministry looks like. My team and I were able to engage in the community of Jaco and meet people that stole our hearts immediately.
However one of the coolest experiences by far was learning how to surf. We were super fortunate to be living along the coast this past month. Even though the heat and the sun were intense it only made the waters that much more refreshing. Refreshing not just from the heat, but for the soul. Here is what I learned:
Surfing is a lot like life. Difficult at first due to having to push up, bend and lean all in one swift motion while also finding the proper footing on the board. But you are in the midst of creation. Paddling out trying to conquer the waves as you finally turn your back on one, knowing its your wave, and you leave it all behind you as you push, paddle, and stand in victory. Sure, you may fall off and need time to practice balancing it all and taking it one step at a time, but if you don’t let the waves conquer you and keep pushing forward, He will give you the strength to stand firm and ride the wave all the way home to shore.
God is continually calling me back home to him. And there’s no place else I’d rather be.
Thank you to our super fantastic friends Katie and Lisa for not only teaching us how to navigate the waters, but also how he has used you to help navigate the beginning of our kingdom journeys.
