As a kid my mom always told me to reach for the stars. She encouraged me to make big goals and to chase even bigger dreams. Somewhere during my college years though I dropped chasing my dreams and began to settle for the typical “American Dream.” I don’t know why, because my heart has always longed for adventure, culture, and new experiences. Maybe I thought that if I played it safe I would be happy but not risk disappointment. That thinking could not be more wrong. God put that desire for adventure in me for a reason. He has a story planned that is messy, but is greater than traditions and working 9-5.
Here in the DR our ministry ranges from prayer walks, to teaching English, to mixing cement. No matter what our ministry is I always look forward to chilling with our hosts daughters Star and Solimar. One night we were star gazing on the trampoline and Star says, “Let’s travel to the stars.”
So we got up and jumped as high as we could for as long as we could and plopped down in “space”. While we were there I was reminded how much joy comes from child-like faith and play. As I continue this race my goal is to dream big and remain open to new ways God could be leading me. Please pray that I stay true to this goal and that my team will keep me encouraged on this journey. Excuse me as I go reach for the stars…
