What if your parents were unbelievers & starved and beat you for days because you believed in Jesus?
Would you give up your Christianity for your parents to stop?
It all started with an email. I was able to connect with pastor outside or Kathmandu that invited my team to his church service. When we got there, we were about 45 minutes early before service and were greeted by Suraj. Suraj is a 21 year old Nepali that is the youth leader at the church. He took my teammate and I to a room to sit down and after a few minutes of awkwardness, brought us coffee and we started asking him questions. A few minutes into the conversation he started sharing his testimony.
One word: POWERFUL.
Suraj was born into a Hindu family. He hated Christians all his life but it so happened that his best friend was one of them. At 14 years old he had an encounter with the Lord Jesus Christ and gave his life to Him. When his family found out, he got beat up constantly and his father locked him up and starved him for days because he wanted him to give up Christianity. Suraj said no, so he got kicked out of his house, he was disowned and disgraced by his family that same year.
Later he found out he had cancer in his leg and the doctors told him it had to be amputated. But, he refused. He said that he had faith that Jesus would heal his leg. His dad found out that he had cancer and told him that if he gave up Christianity he would pay for all his cancer treatments in full. Suraj said no.
He fell into a depression and tried to commit suicide. He said he heard the voice of the Lord right before killing himself and he didn’t do it. The Lord told him to call his friend that is now his pastor. His friend took him in and to make the story short, Suraj now is the youth leader at his church, he speaks English, plays guitar, bass, and drums, and is so annointed. Jesus healed his leg and he lives cancer free today with both of his legs functioning and strong. He carries a passion, joy, and light that I haven’t seen in a long time. He can tell his story better than I can, but I just wanted to share it because it deeply touched my heart.
Suraj got beat and starved by his family to give up being a Christian and believing in Jesus. He got disowned by his parents. He had cancer. He did not give up. He believed.
And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. -Hebrews 11:6
