I went down to a riverbank today to have some lunch and to spend some time with God in the word. I began reading in John and started in chapter 9. To be honest… I nearly skipped it… "Jesus heals the blind man, I have heard and read this 10,000 times!" But for some reason (God) I decided to read it anyway. So I began reading and got to verse 7 and read, "Go and wash in the pool of Siloam… So the man went and washed and came back seeing." Then I heard God tell me to go wash my own eyes in this river I am beside… What? God are you serious? I will get my jeans dirty! This river probably is filled with sewage! If anyone happens to see me they will think I have lost it!… But still He kept telling me to go.

So, I got up, sat my Bible down and made my way down to the river. I knelt down at the edge, and casually ran my hands in circles, and then I cupped some water and washed my eyes and began to pray. God spoke again to me and said, "I am going to open your eyes. You are blind now to the injustices of the world but soon you will see. You will see things that you will never be able to forget and they will change your life and your heart will break for them as mine does."
I have never been out of the United States. I have read about the places I will be going to, I have been involved with organizations that help people, but I have never seen. However, the story doesnt end with simply gaining vision. The disciples asked Jesus early on, "Why was this man born blind?" God, why was I born blind? Why was I born in a sheltered country without knowing of the injustices taking place all over the world?
Jesus' answer is simple, "This happened so the power of God could be seen in him." God, I pray that my sight will not be gained in vain, but that through me others may see your power and majesty! Lord, use me to fight the injustices I will soon come in contact with and break my heart for the things that break yours.
