As I was running outside tonight (Tuesday, May 11, 2007),
just me and God, I started to pray. In fact, to make sure I wasn’t even
distracted by my running time, my stride, form, or anything else, I just
stopped and walked so I could talk to God out in His nature. I haven’t been
giving God the time I want and need to and the time He longs to have with me. In
the busyness of my schedule and planning, somewhere in there God got pushed to
a minute here and there, driving from here to there, and almost forgotten
about. But tonight as I was praying, I realized how much I long and need that
relationship with God, that incredibly precious time with my Savior. God gave
me the perfect
pink and
orange sunset and the wondrous cumulus clouds to remind me of who
He is-my Creator! I feel as though He painted the sky that beautiful color with
paint-like streaks just for me tonight. As I was walking around a little loop
in my neighborhood at the end of my run, I saw a tiny bird take off. This bird
was a black color with a shimmer as pure as I’ve seen in awhile. I was
surprised by how fast and high the bird flew and how quickly. There was a lot
of power and strength in that little being; so much power in such little wings.
As this little bird took flight, God
brought to mind the fact that He sees me like that
little black bird. I may
look
little, I may seem
little, I may be
little, I may feel
little, but God has
given me wings like that little bird, strength to spread my wings and sore!
Just like the little black bird who seemed to have small wings but strength in his wings as eagles wings, God promises to give our little wings strength like eagles’ wings. This World Race adventure is definitely larger than I am, more than I have
within me, and beyond my comprehension, yet God has given me strength to take
flight and travel the world serving and loving the very people He created and
loves; the poor, the forgotten, the misunderstood. He can use little ‘ol me to
make an eternal difference—amazing!

“But those who wait on the LORD
shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They
shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.”
