At my first training session a few
months ago in April, I had the privilege of meeting many of the people I will
be spending 11 months with. The June team had their training during the
same time as ours, so I had the opportunity to meet most of the World Racers in
that group as well. Leaving for the World Race was a much closer reality
for them than it was for my team leaving in September. There was much anticipation as
they didn’t even know where they were going or who their teammates would
be. At the end of training they were
told who would be in their small group of 5-7 people for the year. There was much excitement as they were one
more step closer to following God into the unknown.
Some of the June ’07 World Racers
Well…the June team has taken
off! Last week, with a few setbacks in
the beginning, they have made it to Africa. I am so excited for them and it’s neat to see
how God is already working in them and through them in just one week. They have had the chance to meet up with the
January crew during their debrief and for their last training before they head
out on their own. The January team seems
to be liking the new and fresh excitement and energy of the June team just
starting off as the January team is at their half-way point, having been
through a lot of ups and downs already, needing a bit of encouragement and
reminding of the big picture they had coming into the World Race from the
beginning.

As I read their blogs (which you
can check out as well), I realize how scary and exciting it is for them at the
same time. It makes me wonder how my
departure is going to be and realizing that I have to choose to give my fears
to God right from the beginning; fears of the unknown, fears of being in over
my head, fears of leaving everyone behind at home, fears-fears-fears…leave
those behind and get excited about what God is going to do through me. When I give all my fears to God and let Him
work those out and realize that this thing IS way too big for me and I AM in
over my head, I can give it to God and let Him do the work of giving me His
strength to do what He has called me to do.
Go….change the world, one person at a time!
GO JUNE RACERS!!
You’re in our prayers…
“I press on toward the goal for the prize of the
upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”
