Cambodian (Khmer) Christian Association is a church led by a young Khmer Pastor, Vanny. His church is located in the village area of Battambang province, and his call is to reach the rural areas and peoples with the message of Jesus. This church hosts monthly pastor/leader seminars that equip Christian leaders with tools for evangelism, discipleship, and mentoring their church bodies. God has helped them to plant more than 30 house/cell churches in the surrounding villages.
Our team will mainly be helping teach English, the bible, music and other fun things in the orphanage when the kids are home. While the kids are at school, we will be able to go farther out into the villages to be with and meet villagers and do some evangelism.
We will be staying at the orphanage like we did last month at Tree of Life. We’ve been told that this is a good beginner “roughing it” kind of month, so we’re excited to see what that entails. We think they say “roughing it” because while we’ll live in a concrete building and have toilets (even “western” toilets – no squatty potties!), we’ll pump water, have bucket showers, will have no electricity, will do laundry by hand and will be at least 2 hours away from the nearest city (which is Battambang, about 60 miles east of the Thailand border in NW Cambodia)…down a “pretty crazy and bumpy” dirt road J
