A bit of an update on life…we have gotten to see so much already!
Here is where we live:
our room-community living is great
We got to do laundry today!!
the shower
Our mode of transportation to everywhere is a pick-up truck. So, it’s six ‘chicks’ (as Caitlin would say) in the back of a pick-up, hair flying in the wind, everywhere we go. I very much enjoy being in the back of a pick-up because it reminds me slightly of riding on the back of a motorcycle which I miss greatly. (oh and Wut our translator has stayed with us for three days and then is moving on to the next group)
When was the last time YOU ate a cricket??
I’ve done a lot, but this is the first time in my life I have eaten a cricket! Although, it was dried and seasoned a bit, it wasn’t too bad, just a bit of a crunch involved. We were ate the night market for just a short time since we were tired and we saw a pig’s tongue on the table along with it’s snout, and intestines, and right next to it lie something that was a feasable eat, so we bought a bag of crickets. Below is the video footage taken of this event. (VIDEO footage to come…it didn’t work this time)
Technology:
Praise God I was able to restore most of my pictures! But…if it’s not one thing it’s another. I realized the reason I lost those pictures is due to a bad flash drive because some others have not transferred again but thankfully I learned my lesson and kept them in two places. Another thing is that the scroll down on my blackberry has failed me leaving me with only certain options to use. I believe God is teaching me alot of patience and helping me to rely less on technology and more spend more time with Him. It’s a hard thing for me to learn but I keep giving everything to Him.
Elephant Center:
and YES, that is me in the middle – I let an elephant step over me
And there’s Becky up on the trunk!
Silk Factory:
Things you may or may not want to know about Thailand:
*primarily a buddist country
*they drive on the left hand side of the road
*the stearing wheel is on the right
*shoes must be taken off before entering a home, business, -pretty much anywhere (including the pick-up!)
*many Buddist temples
*most men become monks at one point of their life
*not many fast food restaurants (KFC, Pizza Hut, & McDonald’s – but not as many as US)
*motor bikes are used by everyone, everywhere
*most road signals are optional
*street vendors are everywhere
*they are the nicest people ever (very very hospitable)
*stray dogs and cats exist everywhere (I guess stray cows too, just more out in the country)
*gaming is HUGE over here (internet cafes full almost everyday for gaming online)
*squatty potties are the way of life (um, haven’t conquered that one yet)
*lots of open fields (but not like IN)
*a dryer is a rare commodity (you see clothes hung out to dry everywhere
*lots of rice (with every meal)
*they greet with a wai (two hands together in prayer formation up to chin and a slight bow)
*they like futbol (soccer)
*very spicy food is normal
….more to come
