A Jog to Remember…

“You are worthy, our Lord and God,

to receive glory and honor and power,

for You created all things,

and by your will they were created

and have their being.”

~Rev. 4:11

This morning, one foot in front of the other, I ran down toward the beach.  The sun was shining brightly and the wind blew just enough to break the heat.  I met up with a path that formed itself around the ocean front, some in open area and the other part in the shade under some trees.  As I jogged, I admired the view God had created for me; a view with the sun reflecting off the bright blue water.  I ran past a group of African ladies with bright yellow vests sitting in the shade taking a short break.  Instantly as I passed them and entered the perfectly laid out trail surrounded by trees, God prompted me to go and talk to them.  I ran to the end of the trail and then headed back, the whole time asking God that they still be there when I got back to that point.  I prayed that He would give me the words He wanted to speak through me, that it would be all about Him, and that He would get all the glory, even if He just wanted to use me to make someone smile.

Jogging around the corner to where they had been sitting, I noticed the whole group was still there.  I stopped to catch my breath and simply waved and said hi from a distance.  After standing there admiring the view once more and asking God for wisdom, I turned around to stand next to them in the shade.  That was a good reason for me to go over where they were, right?  As I stood there, I started talking to the lady in the bench next to me.  I started by asking how she was doing and asked about the job they did as a group.  She seemed timid at first wondering why some random person would be interested in talking to her.  It took a little while for her to open up to me but then we started talking about her children and how old they are.  At one point it got quiet and I asked if there was anything I could pray for her about.

She looked right at me and said, “Yes!  You can pray for a permanent job for me.  This is only a temporary job and it’s hard to provide for the family.”  I asked if her husband was employed and she explained that he wasn’t working at all and jobs are very hard to find right now.  I asked what her name was and she so softly answered, “LuLu.”  I proceeded to crouch down next to the small wooden bench she was sitting on and pray for her.

The moment I finished praying for her, one of the other ladies that was there with Lulu asked if I could lay hands and pray for the whole group.  I quickly answered, “Of course!”  They all gathered around in a circle and I asked if this was only a temporary job for everyone there.  “Yes.”  I inquired if each one of them were looking for a permanent job.  “Yes.”  The last question I asked was if they all had families.  And this time they answered, “Yes,” while nodding their heads.  “How about we all hold hands in a circle as I pray over all of you,” I requested.  I prayed, first thanking God for being the provider He is, for just being who He is, an indescribable God and then continued to pray for their families, for jobs, for God’s love to pour over each woman there and that they would know His presence in a real way.  I honestly don’t remember all the words I prayed because God gave His words.

Afterwards, they asked about me and where I come from.  They asked how the weather was there and I explained that it is extremely cold right now back home and I am so blessed and grateful to be in such an amazingly gorgeous and warm place right now.  Before I continued running, I found out that they are down there sometime in the morning each morning, so God willing I will see them again.  They asked how long I would be around Gordon’s Bay for and were anxious to see me again.

As I proceeded to run, I had so much joy in my heart.  He had prepared this opportunity for me; He had opened my eyes to it, prompted my heart and given me the words to say.  With a smile from ear to ear, I thanked God for it all; for preparing that specific moment and meeting.  It had nothing to do with me…it was all God!  I pray that those who read give all glory to God.

Later on in the day I started wondering why I was so in awe of what happened this morning because this is everyday life.  These are the opportunities God opens up to us each and everyday, but so many times we miss them.  But God meets us where we’re at and starts small.  When our faith is small and our eyes are only half open, He starts with that.  He is a God of love and patience and I’m so thankful God is walking me through this process, starting with me right where I’m at.  He loves me too much to leave me there; He knows exactly what we need, right when we need it.

ALL GLORY TO GOD!!

“The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us.  We have seen His glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.”

~John 1:14

P.S. God willing, I will get to spend more time with these women and can get a picture of them for you!
