Hello I thought I would tell you what my team and I have been up to in South Africa! We have been staying in a farm house in a small village called Freimershein, which is near Mosselbaai on the Western Cape. It is beautiful here. There’s mountains and green rolling hills. I have been here for three weeks but the sunset over the mountains on a clear evening still leaves me breathless! It is a small town, so everybody knows of the Americans that are here to help. The people are so friendly to us everybody waves at us as we drive by and the cows just wander through the village at will!
My team and I have been been doing a variety of things these last three weeks. Mainly we’ve been working in the neighbouring schools, giving presentations about the Bible and testimonies. One thing I have learned in Africa is always be prepared to say something wherever you go; be it an introduction, a prayer, a song, or a word of encouragement.
One of my highlights from this month would be on Wednesdays when we’ve been going to the local high school. I volunteered to come up with a curriculum and lecture to six classes every Wednesday. The first week I talked to the kids about self-esteem and finding their identity in Christ. Last week I spoke to kids about healthy relationships and learning to forgive those who hurt you in the past the way Christ forgave us. This week I talked to them about peer pressure, drugs and alcohol, having dreams and serving Christ. It’s exhausting work but it is very rewarding. The kids respond well to what I have to say and are interactive in the classroom.
Another highlight would be when we go to the local prison twice a week to share the gospel, talk and pray with the inmates. It has been great fun talking to them, hearing their stories, sharing mine and giving them Christ’s hope!
I really enjoy the community we are staying in and love learning about the South African culture. It is so different from Asia. Most South African speak english, but their primary language is Afrikaans. Though, there are 11 main languages spoken in South Africa. The weather is delightful! It is summer here but it is in the 70’s. The sun is very hot but in the shade it is perfect! I love sitting on our deck at the farm house and watch the mist come in from the mountains. The weather can change very suddenly here. I feel really blessed to be here.
Prayer request: The last couple of months I have been having intestinal issues and have been to the doctor twice. Still not sure what’s causing the discomfort.
Please consider supporting me. I need $2500 to be fully funded!
