First off, what is Unsung Heroes?
Unsung Heroes is an initiative started recently by Adventures in Missions, where sometimes a team on the World Race will take a month to explore the country they are in and find new ministry partners for future World Race teams. It’s an incredible opportunity for a team to be truly Spirit-led, to see different facets of ministry, and to meet like-minded Kingdom makers.
Before I started this month on Unsung Heroes, I had already experienced the effects of the mission– my fabulous hosts and ministry partners in Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica were connected with Adventures from a previous UH team!
Who is Pastor Ramiro, and how did we find him?
My team started this month off with a goal and earnest prayer to be led by the Spirit. As we prayed about where to go, one of my teammates said that she felt like we were supposed to go to San Francisco. (We didn’t even know if there was a San Francisco in El Salvador!) With a little help from Google, we found a cute little town called San Francisco Gotera a couple of hours away from San Salvador, and we packed up and headed that way to see what awaited us there.
We thought a good starting place was church, so we checked out several local churches to see what we could find. One of those churches put us in contact with Pastor Ramiro Claros. He pastors a church further into the mountains, in an even smaller town called Corinto. That church has 4 churches total, and their purpose is to spread the Gospel and care for the people in the small mountain villages surrounding them. They have a rice-and-beans feeding program for the people there, soccer for the children, and also send teams to evangelize in the villages.
We called Pastor Ramiro and asked if we could meet with him to discuss the ministry and the possibility of establishing a partnership with Adventures, and we were pleasantly surprised by the lengths of his willingness, kindness, and hospitality. He and his church family have several projects in the works that they could use a team to help with, as well as opportunities to join in evangelism, feeding, and teaching. I am excited for the opportunity for future Racers to work with Pastor Ramiro!
