This week has been one of tons of curve balls. Thankfully I was able to gain my peace from my Jesus, otherwise I might have lost it.
Monday
I was making dinner for the family I live with. It was requested that I make steak for dinner. I should probably start by saying I am not a cook. I can follow a recipe but I can’t just throw food together and know that it will taste good. So I turned to my favorite resource, Google. I looked up how to make round eye steak and one of the ways I found suggested I braise the meat in a pan with some oil before baking it. Well, I must have put too much oil in the pan because the as soon as I put the first steak in the pan, the hot oil splashed back and splattered all over me. It mainly hit me in the face. So now I have these lovely red burn marks all over my face.
Skill learned : When cooking you don’t need a lot of oil in the pan. Or I can just let someone else cook.
*Might I note that dinner did turn out very good.
Wednesday
We had a new refrigerator delivered to the house on Tuesday and before the installation tech left the house he told K’s mom that the reason there was no water coming out of the new fridge was because of a leaky valve on the top of the water heater. He told her which part needed to be replaced and advised her to go to Home Depot to get it and that it would be an easy fix. I was sent to get the part. I feel bad for the poor man at Home Depot who had to deal with me. All I walked in with was a picture and said “I need this.” He must have been a genius, because he looked at it for a minute said something about sizes and then handed me the piece!
When K’s mom gets home I show her the piece and she then attempts to go change it. In order to get to our water heater you have to stand on the edge of a platform which holds he A/C unit. I am asked to flip the water switches on the electrical breaker to turn off the water to the machine. So I do and she begins to unscrew the old valve. One part comes off just find and then she begins the second part and as it comes off the water from the heater begins exploding out like a geyser. It was bad. K’s mom is soaked in seconds and yelling for me to call the fire department, because all of this water is pouring out right next to the A/C unit. So I run into the house to get my phone and K. When I make it back to the garage K’s mom, who is still on top of the platform trying to get the water to stop flowing, asks me to run to the neighbors to see if they can help. I’m on the phone with the fire department and knocking on the neighbor’s door. The next few minutes were a blur in which several of our wonderful neighbors rallied around us to help us get the water turned off and then the fire men arrived.

Once the water was turned off we were able to assess the damages. The water pressure coming out of the heater put a hole straight through the drywall in the garage. Also K’s room was flooded. It was bad. The firemen were kind enough to help us move out furniture and start the process of cleaning up the water. But there was a lot more that needed to be done.

Skills learned: Removing baseboards, banging out wet dry wall, and drying out walls and flooring.
Thankfully everyone is safe and unharmed. The house is in disarray, but we are surviving. I spent this morning setting K up in her temporary room aka the office. Things will work out, but for now if I seem totally out of it I am really sorry!
