This first week in Honduras has opened my eyes to just how much this trip is allowing is to really be the hands and feet of Jesus. Part of our ministry this week has been to go into people’s homes and share the gospel with them. We have seen 3 or 4 people give their lives to Christ for the first time and at least 2 recommit to a relationship with Jesus. One house visit, when we had climbed two hours to the top of mountain (see my blog It’s An Uphill Climb for more information on that)found part of my team at the home of Santos. He had never even heard the name Jesus before. But after my team shared with him he gave his life to Christ.
Another moment this week found us playing in a field with some of the children after we had taught them a lesson on Jesus feeding the 5,000. We tried to play some games, but most of them where to scared to come anywhere near us, or at least pretended to be. So Anika, Bug, and Jenn sat down and just started talking to them. They went through the basic questions: How are you? What is your name? How old are you? Etc. Then Anika started to share the gospel with them. It was incredible how captive they were with her story, through Jenn’s translation. When they finished the children just sat there, almost like they were waiting for more. It was then that Malerie said “ I just got a glimpse of what it was like when Jesus was teaching. The crowds never wanted to leave, he had to be the one to leave.” It was the same with our group of children. It was in that moment that I realized we were the hands and feet of Jesus. We were living His life, doing what he did.
Then this past Sunday we were privileged enough to come along side another missionary group from Texas who is helping build a house here in the mountains. They were handing out shoes to 86 children. We got to take the old shoes off and wash these children’s dirty, blistered, torn up feet and then put new socks and shoes on them. It was one of the most incredible experiences of my life. Jesus washed people’s feet. Now I was doing the same. All because God allowed me to have this experience, all because I said yes when he asked me to go.
God is doing big things with and in my team this month. Please continue to keep us in your prayers. Satan is doing all he can to attack our team. Also, please keep the family we are staying with and the women who are helping us in your prayers too. Because they are aiding is in growing God’s Kingdom, Satan can attack them as well. Please pray for health, protection, strength (spiritually and physically), and for God to use us as His vessels as he sees fit.
