I am pretty sure I have said this before, but growing up I was part of a pretty amazing church.  I was privileged to have several adults pour into my life and be there as a mentor for me.  We also had a pretty amazing youth group.

During my time in youth group, I had two “official” youth pastors. I put official in quotes, because while he didn’t have the title “pastor” in front of his name, Todd was just as much a youth pastor as Jason and Tony were.  I don’t really remember how long it was, but there was a time period between when Pastor Jason left and when we got Pastor Tony. During that in between time we, the youth, took control of our youth group. In doing that, we took Sunday mornings to gather our leadership together for meetings and planning. Somewhere along the line the meetings turned into intense worship and prayer sessions. I don’t remember all of them, because there were a lot, but there are a few Sunday mornings that seem to be forever engrained in my memory.

But one sticks out more than others. Over the years since it has happened I have found myself recounting it over and over.  We were praying for each, and we had some of the middle school students up in The Loft (the youth room) with us. We were taking turns, putting everyone in the middle of the circle and then praying for them.  I don’t remember exactly who was there, except that a middle school student by the name of Stephanie was present. I remember what I prayed for her vividly. I remember hearing what God was saying and praying these things out loud to her.

Or so I thought.

Like I said before, this prayer that I prayed to her I would remember in the most random times. I would just think about it sometimes.  I don’t know about you, but I don’t normally remember prayers I pray over people years and years later, especially not in the exact wording.

I remember telling her that one day she would do great things in many nations.

When I was praying it I can remember the urgency I had to get her to understand how important the things I was saying to her were. I felt the importance.

Last week I was having one of those moments where I was remembering this prayer and I decided to ask God why I kept remembering this one prayer. And plain as day His response was

I was talking to YOU.

Wait, WHAT?

I wasn’t saying those things to her; I was saying them to YOU!

I literally stopped what I was doing and just sat there for a little while. So many things clicked for me in that moment. I have known that this World Race trip is something God wanted me to do pretty much since I heard about it. Yes I tried to do things my own way and pushed it off for a while, but deep down I knew. This conversation was just another affirmation of that.  It was also another affirmation that He really does have a plan. Something I need to learn to trust in more.
