There are two words that can describe this past week:

Wet” and “Cold

From the time we started our trip back up the mountain at 6am Tuesday morning until about noon on Saturday it just rained, with few breaks in between. My teammate Anika said it best:

“We have been living in a cloud for five days.”

That is exactly what it felt like. We did not see the sun or feel its warmth for 5 days. We may have all cheered loudly for a few minutes when the sun finally reappeared on Saturday.

While the weather hindered some of our work, it did not stop us completely. We still made house visits (more on that in my next blog), visited a school and taught them about Jesus, went back to the construction site of the new house being built by the team who was here from Texas, and taught children’s church at both services. The roads were muddy and slick which made for some very slow walking on my part, but each outing was worth it!

But I think my favorite part of the week was just getting to spend some quality time with my team. We played cards, sat in a room and read books together, listened to sermons, helped make meals together, and just sat around and laughed with each other. The rain allowed us the time together that we do not always get when we are doing ministry. Yes, we are physically together pretty much 24/7, ( It should be noted that I am writing this blog from the hotel room I chose to stay in last night, ALONE,  because sometimes I need some alone time to function properly. My team appreciates me knowing when I need to take me time. Plus for a whopping $16 I got a bed to myself, wifi, a tv, and a hot shower. Worth.Every.Penny.) but sometimes we don’t get to connect like we did this week.

I enjoyed letting my sassy side come out with Bug and Anika

I enjoyed watching Jenn’s competitive and sometimes angry, side come out while playing cards.

I enjoyed getting to talk to Malerie about the books we were currently reading. (She is reading “North Anger Abby” while I am just about to finish “7”)

I enjoyed seeing Jay’s fun side come out as he initiated card games with the team

I enjoyed watching Kent “strategize” during said card games to pretty much come out the victor in all but a few of them.

I enjoyed sitting as close to the fire in the kitchen trying to stay warm, while sharing what Jesus has been teaching us recently.

I enjoyed gathering every morning to pray for the day and the people we met the day before.

While not the week we originally planned, God knew what would happen all along. He knew this was the week we needed as a team. And so he gave it to us.

Oh and to answer the question in the title:

I don’t know about all roosters, but our rooster can crow 26 times in a 15 minute period. You try sleeping through that sometime!

As of today my support account says I need about $1200 more to reach my next deadline and about $5500 to be fully funded. God has been showing up in the money situation since I signed up for the Race and I know he is not going to let me down now. If you would like to give financially, you can do so by clicking the “support me” link on the left side of this blog.

Also, PLEASE KEEP PRAYING!! Your  prayers are being felt! My team and I are spending a lot of time sharing the gospel this month in homes and in school. My request would just be continued protection from Satan and his plans to stop us from doing what God wants us to do.
