I don’t know about you, but for me taking a foreign language class in high school was mandatory if there was even a remote chance I wanted to go to college. For that reason I sat through two years of Spanish and all I really have to show for it is that I can say “I have a cat in my pants, help me” in Spanish. People told me that it was a useful thing to know, and while I believed them I really didn’t see how it would be a big deal if I didn’t know Spanish.
Fast forward ten years and I find myself sitting on the floor of a classroom in Costa Rica wondering why I didn’t pay more attention in those classes!
When we first arrived here, our amazing contact Katie (I’ll probably blog more about her another time, just know she really is fantastic!) asked if we would be willing to do an English camp. We all agreed! I thought we would be teaching just children, but it turns out they opened the camp to all ages. Jay and I got placed on a team to teach the adults. So every Tuesday and Friday for the next 3 weeks I get the privilege of sitting down with people who want nothing more than to be able to speak the language I am blessed to know. This past Tuesday we had 3 lovely ladies with us. They were so eager to learn. They had such a passion to learn English. It was so much fun to get to know them and begin teaching them basic greetings. It joy in their face that radiated through their smiles as they began to practice conversations with us and get the words right was priceless. I am so excited to see how they progress in these next few weeks!
I would ask if you could lift my team up in prayer for this camp. We also spent Tuesday afternoon passing out flyers in the local park asking people to come learn English for free. We would really like this to be a place where they not only learn English but also learn about God and His love. If you could pray for Holy Spirit guidance in these areas it would be greatly be appreciated.
Also I am still $2,900 away from my next deadline which is April 1st. And I need $7400 to be totally funded. I would love to be fully funded as soon as possible, so if you could help out in any way that would be wonderful. For some of you that may mean passing up Starbucks for a day and sending that $5 my way, while for others you may be able to give more. Also, I am quickly learning that there are a lot of little expenses that come up day to day, such as needing more toiletries and such. I have about $400 saved for the year, so if you feel lead to help me with personal money you can send it to either my paypal account using my email address: [email protected] or mail/give money to my parents at: 873 SE Kendall Ave, PSL, Fl 34983
Thank you so much for all the support and love so far! It really means a lot and know that your prayers are being felt!
