Part of the World Race culture is this thing called feedback. Current Racers know it well, future Racers are about to become very familiar with it, and those of you who do not know Race lingo have no idea what I am talking about. That’s ok; this blog is more aimed for Racers, but feel free to steal some of these ideas for your bible studies, life groups, home teams, etc.

I have spent the last few months trying to compile a list of different ways to do feedback. We learned early on that “open” feedback got boring quick, so we had to get creative in finding ways to call each other up.  Some of these do take more time than others, but pouring into each other’s lives and speaking life is always worth it.

Hot Seat

This one can be done in a few ways:

  1. Having one person from the team ask a few questions that they want answered each night over the course of a week or so.
  2. Take one night and have each person on the team as a question or two.

The teams I have been on so far have always done it the second way.  Basically what happen is feedback is introduced as hot seat and we get a few minutes to think of a question we want to ask the group to answer about us. The questions can range from “Have I offended anyone?” to “How can I love you better?”  Not everyone has to answer all the questions, but it is nice to remember to pour into everyone else as much as you want to be poured into. Some questions we like to use are:

  • How do you perceive me?
  • What is my role on the team?
  • What is something I do well?
  • What is something I can grow in?
  • What Fruit of the Spirit do I do well? /What Fruit can I grow in?
  • Do you feel loved by me? How?
  • How do you see Christ in me?
  • What do I bring to this team?
  • What gifting’s or anointing’s do you see in me?
  • How can I love you better?
  • What am I walking in that God wants me to lie down and what does he want me to pick up?

Qualities of Love/Fruit of the Spirit

This one can be done with pretty much any list of qualities or attributes you can find in the Bible, but the two we have used are 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 and Galatians 5:22-23. Whoever is running feedback should read the verses out loud and then ask everyone to take a few minutes to pray about which qualities/ fruits they think they do well and which they think they struggle in. When you come back together go around the circle and ask everyone about their responses. Then spend some time speaking into them about the qualities/fruits everyone else sees in them or ones they can grow in.

Salt and Light

Matthew 5:13-14 talks about being salt in light in the world. Spend some time speaking into each other’s lives about how you have seen them be salt and light in the last day/week/month.

Bible Characters

Names of your teammates are written on slips of paper (SIDENOTE: when we did this names were handed to us on slivers of toilet paper. You get resourceful on the Race) and everyone draws one name. Ask everyone to spend between 10-20minutes praying and asking God which character in the Bible their person is most like. **This was one of the harder ones to do, but the results were super awesome! **
