“And if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday. The Lord will guide you always;he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.“
Isiah 58:10-11
Hello and Welcome to my blog!
I would like to start off by saying thank you for taking the time to check out this page! If you do not know me personally I would like you to know that I am excited to get to know you. If you do know me personally I would like to say thank you for any support you have given me throughout my life so far. To everyone, I am excited that through this blog, we can experience this journey together! So, here it goes.
My Name is Kara Thompson, I am 20 years old, and I am about to embark on one of the greatest adventures of my life! If you don’t already know, in October of this year I will be trading in the comfort of my small town life for constant change. Yes, in just a few months, I will be leaving the United States for a 9 month Gap Year to backpack across three countries I have never been to with about 45 other 18-21 year olds so that I may help the broken and proclaim the name of Jesus Christ. Come October, I will be headed off to spend 3 months in Ecuqador, three months in India, and 3 months in Zambia! PAUSE…If this is your first time hearing this, take a minute to let it sink in because this is HUGE people!
For some of you, your first thought is, I can probably guess, WHY KARA?!? The simple answer to the question why is because I love people, I hate suffering, and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE JESUS. Because of this, I am prepared to be an obedient servant of Christ, even if that means giving up the comforts of home for 9 months of my life.
My teammates (whom I have already begun to form amazing relationships with) and I along with a large amount of Adventures in Missions staff, will be partnering with local churches and community partners to serve the impoverished communities around Ecuador, India, and Zambia.
So, here’s the deal…
For my whole life, I have always felt like God has been calling me to do something great and I have always had the desire to help people. When I first found the Gap Year program I thought to myself, what better way to help people than to give them the gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ?, what better way to experience the world than with amazing, christian people by my side? and what better way to live my life than to give it completely to God?
Since the discovery of and being accepted to this trip, I do not think I have be more prepared and excited for my future or more certain of God’s plan for me. The best part about all of this is I will be doing what I love, caring for people, for the one I love, Jesus Christ. I want desperately to help the helpless, mend the broken, and heal the hearts of the lost and forgotten. I want desperately to life selflessly for the Lord so that through me, the work of the kingdom of heaven may be done.
All that being said, I CANNOT DO THIS ALONE. That means I need you, yes YOU. Strangers, acquaintances, friends, and family alike, I need you and your support to make this all happen. First and foremost, I need constant prayer. Pray for this trip, pray for my and other world racer’s funds, pray for receptiveness of those souls we will be touching, pray for safe travels, even pray that I will be able to strengthen my faith in God before I go. Even if prayer is all you can give, pray. Second, I need funds. If God is calling you to give money, pray about it and donate no matter how much or how little. If I am meant to go on this trip, God will provide. Maybe God is calling you to be one of those people instrumental in the success of this trip but again, even if you cant give money, I will willingly accept advice and most importantly, prayer.
I am so beyond excited to share this journey with you and I hope you can help me in my journey in any way possible!
If you have any questions about the trip or the donating process shoot me an email [email protected]
God Bless!
Kara Thompson
